  • Load time: A page’s load time is directly related to the bounce rate. Identifying higher load times (desktop and mobile) allows us to streamline elements to make for a more user-friendly interface.
  • Keywords and ranking: Evaluate how the pages rank for the keywords you’ve identified as important. Modify as necessary to aim for high-volume, low-competition keywords to achieve a good page rank.

      Excellent, Diane! If you just started, I would wait to do the first audit till you have a good month of content going. Normally, I’d recommend a seasonal audit, but if you have someone just starting on content marketing an audit earlier than that may help to redefine better goals or see where any content went wrong, so you can address & fix earlier. Then after the first initial month audit, bi-monthly, then on to seasonal audits. Hope that helps.

    Thanks Julia for the awesome article. I’d like to point out a very useful metrics that I use to measure the performance of each page, which is the average time on page. In case a page has 100% bounce rate, that value will obviously be 0 and we know there’s something wrong with the page even before looking at the time on page. But when its not zero, the time on page value can give a pretty clear idea about whether its engaging or not as against the other successful pages. A page with really low time on page value might have useful content, which will suggest that there may be something wrong with the first few lines of the page(the famous 30 second rule).
